Strangles (Streptococcus equi) has been confirmed in Wellington, Ontario. Two broodmares on a private farm developed fever, nasal discharge, and enlarged lymph nodes after co-mingling with horses from other farms. Samples were positive for S. equi by bacterial culture on February 27, 2024. The owner is working with their veterinarian to control the outbreak.
