Strangles (Streptococcus equi) has been confirmed in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario. On March 21, 2024, a seven year old gelding presented with a unilateral submandibular lymph node abscess. Infection with S. equi was confirmed on March 25, 2024. The horse is recovering. Under veterinary supervision, the facility owner has implemented voluntary animal movement restrictions and infection control procedures.
