Equine influenza has been confirmed in the Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario. Two horses from the property went to an event in the Hamilton Region on May 2-4, 2025. After returning they were put out with other horses, including a 4 year old Quarter Horse gelding, who then developed copious mucopurulent nasal discharge and tested positive for equine influenza on May 14, 2025. Another 6 horses are suspected of having the disease. The farm owner has instituted animal movement restrictions and biosecurity protocols.
