Strangles (Streptococcus equi) has been confirmed in Wellington County, Ontario. A 10 year old Thoroughbred gelding gelding developed a draining submandibular lymph node and nasal discharge. Discharges were positive for S. equi on PCR. There are three additional suspected cases.
The facility manager is working with their veterinarian on voluntary animal movement restrictions and infection control procedures.
