Strangles (Streptococcus equi) in Ontario, August 31, 2026

Strangles (Streptococcus equi) has been confirmed at a farm in Grey County, Ontario. On August 24, 2026, a 4-month old foal developed respiratory distress and was diagnosed with a retropharyngeal lymph node abscess, which was drained. The foal is now recovering. Streptococcus equine was cultured from the abscess.
