Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA)

Strangles (Streptococcus equi) has been confirmed in Middlesex County, Ontario. A 7 year old pony gelding was examined for choke and was noted to have copious mucopurulent nasal discharge that tested positive for S. equi. 20 additional horses were exposed. The facility owner, working with their veterinarian, has instituted voluntary animal movement restrictions and biosecurity protocols.
