West Nile Virus in Ontario, August 29, 2025

West Nile Virus (WNV) has been confirmed in the District of Algoma, Ontario. A 2.5 month old colt died after developing neurologic signs (posterior paresis/paralysis, hyperesthesia) and fever (102.7 F). Serum WNV IgM ELISA was positive. The horse is deceased. The horse was not vaccinated against WNV. There is one additional suspected case.
